Surat: At a time when election officials are looking at different avenues to create awareness on voting, a song sung by a 10-year-old girl from Surat has come in handy for them. The song sung by Navya Vayeda has become popular on social media and has been shared widely by the locals.
Though BJP has won the Surat Lok Sabha seat uncontested, several citizens will be voting on May 7 as they fall under the Navsari and Bardoli parliamentary constituencies.
In the song ‘Have Mare Mota Thavu, Mare Mat Aapva Javu’ (Now I want to grow up and go to vote), a young girl describes how important it is to vote and wishes that she could vote one day.
A music student, Navya has been singing the song for about two years. But considering the importance of the message, her family got it recorded and shared it widely during this election.
“Navya is my relative’s daughter and I wrote the song as she wanted to participate in a singing competition. Later, I noticed that she sang well and the message of the song was also important. This is when we decided to make a music video as well,” said Mehul Buch, a movie and theatre actor. “With the help of actor Harshal Mankad, we got the video prepared for wider reach.”
The song described a child’s thoughts about elders who at times are negligent about voting.
“Before singing the song, I was not aware of elections and voting. But later I understood it. As a child, I can’t vote but through this song I can participate in the election process,” said Navya.
Music arrangement for the song was done by composer Darshan Zaveri. “The song’s music is based on a popular Gujarati song. We used modern musical instruments so that people can connect easily,” said Zaveri.
“Navya has been learning music from Bhargav Thakar for the last two years. She is also preparing for music exams. We thought that the message was important in this election hence recorded the song and got a video prepared as well,” said Navya’s mother Dhara. “During the Covid pandemic, Nayva developed an interest in music and later we sent her for training.”
